The only thing I’d like, is the bigger 16” screen.

But as you may or may not know, I’ve had to return a few, due to issues.

Now, they’re available for pickup no problem.

So do I hold out for this new Air, or just buy the Pro?

I know it’s my choice, but I’d appreciate your opinions.

Even if they ship a Macbook with a new M2 chip, who says it's going to outperform the M1 Pro/Max offerings? It'll surely be the entry level M2 chip with potentially M2 Pro/Max coming in a year in the new MBPs.

Single core it probably will.
Multicore maybe yes, maybe no.

Basic M2 will outperform the basic M1, but I can't see it coming close to a M1 Pro or M1 Max while those models are still on sale. It would make zero sense for Apple to market a cheap laptop which outperforms a more expensive model. Sure that's literally just happened when the M1 Air and Mini were launched in 2020 and they chewed-up and spat out the Intel MBPs that were on sale literally the day before, but it won't happen again.

If it was my choice at this point - I would wait for the M2 iterations. I have 16" M1 Max MBP 64GB 1TB.

Improvements in chip technology worth the wait if not necessary to upgrade right now.

Two very different products. Your needs should inform you which notebook is the better choice.

Same advice I always give...

Buy a new computer when you need to buy a new computer.
If you can wait for an upcoming model, then you don't need to buy a new computer now.

I can already tell you there will be no 16" M2 MacBook Air, so get the 16" M1 MacBook Pro now.

If you have a computer that is capable of covering your current needs, then why rush into buying MBP?
I would wait for MBA update and then decide.
