I live in Indonesia and there is no online store (and the nearest apple online store Singapore can't ship to Indonesia). So i have to buy it at Apple Store, they said that the mac book is in stock, but who knows when did that MBP in stock built? So, can anyone tell me how to know the MBP's rev? Is it from the serial number? So when i buy it, i can take look at the serial number first to ensure that i'm getting the 'less problem' MBP, like Marlon_JBT's MBP, which doesnt have any heat problem :)

The serial number of a mac machine is easy to find.
Just go to the Apple Menu -- About This Mac -- More Info

See the screenshot below.

you don't even have to go THAT far.

Apple Menu > About this Mac > click twice on 'Version 10.x.x' (under Mac OS X).

Are all MBPs today made in China?

I heard they used to be made in Ireland and Singapore in the past too, but today..?

You obviously have some kind of computer now, I say wait. No sense buying what I see as a beta version of new Mac hardware. Personally I'm waiting until next year by then most of the bugs would have been ironed out and they will probably have merom chips.

And probably Leopard* too

Wait for the merom books. Since merom and yonah chips are interchangable, it's unlikely that the case/motherboard will change significantly. Upsides to merom are: 64 bit and cooler running at the same clockspeed.

Yonah is to the 604e as Merom is to the G3/4 processor.

Why would you buy the CrippleBook when the real PowerBook is just around the corner? If you plan on owning the laptop for 2 years, it's worth it to save for a few more months.

Id Hardly call it a "cripplebook"

Its faster than my dual g5 for crying out loud!

Haha, but yes, if rumours are correct, merom might be out earlier than we think, might aswell wait a couple months or something for more info.

laaaaaaa

Wow, thanks, I didn't know that!

EDIT: I've had my MacBook Pro for a couple hours now... loving every minute of it. my only regret was dropping all the money on it, but hey, I got a free printer out of the deal. :)

W8611, no AirPort problems... yeah, the whine is there.

From what I'm now understanding, there has been no official revision number. Some MBPs are just better than others..... as with all computers. You can't mass produce things and have them be 100% perfect.

We're all on Revision A.

Aren't the new ones Revision D? I remember reading a few articles and seeing it in a few places, that serials beginning with 8612 were Revision D. Not quite sure, but that's what I thought.

hm ok so the rev can be recognized from the serial number beginning with something?

ok, cause im afraid im getting the old MBP, cause Apple's user in Indonesia are quite less, then it's possible that stocks in Indonesia are old MBPs.. So need to ensure to get the latest MBP..

The are no official revisions other than "A." As has been pointed out in other threads, the part of the serial numbers that is changing is the week of manufacture.

Technically, we're still on "Revision A," but Apple has made four slight design adjustments, possibly 5 of them, since the very first machines were made because of flaws. If a major update is announced (eg: they added another port, replaced the Superdrive with a faster one, increased standard HD size, etc), then it'll go to "Revision B." In other words, these "Revision D and E" statements simply refer to design adjustments made to fix an obvious flaw.

Apple was fixing the major flaws as the machines were being built because they're all under warranty anyway, and it would it be a nightmare if they kept making flawed machines for the past 4 months and had to repair a large number of them for issues they could have addressed once discovered? Instead, they're making adjustments along the way so that they don't receive repair boxes for the same few problems constantly.

The only reason that I am waiting for my Macbook Pro is getting the money at Graduation, which is June 4th. Then, I will be buying the MBP. If I had the money now, I would buy it, no doubt about it. Those things are fast, and are already more than enough to handle my needs.

Is that confirmed though? I haven't seen an official statement and noone seems to have any idea if this is real or not. I see plenty of posts by people with a 'rev d' that are still not working ...

ok, now Apple unveil the 17" MBP... That have all i need, double layer burner, it doesnt have modem but i dont need one though, and the price difference is not too far from the 2.0 15" MBP. But i just dont like big laptop, it's just too big. But do you think all the flaws from 15" MBP already fixed in 17" MBP? I'll consider to get the 17" :)

maybe it's good to wait for the WWDC, if apple announce MBP 15" with double layer burner (remembering that the burner is now actually available, because 17" MBP is the same thick as the 15", it actually wont take much effort to put the same burner in the 15" MBP right). And maybe Merom and Leopard.. Can't wait for the WWDC :)
