Most important factor why most people buy Air, is for portability and then maybe the sexiness/design.

It would be a brgain to get it at the lowest price. Thats about 700 pounds for a MBA.

But even better would be getting the SSD which is 250 times faster then hardrive.

If i wanted to get the Air it would have to be with the SSD.

But i wish they can drop that price even further- doubtful.

If they can bring it to the 700 pound range, then maybe i would buy.

A laptop for about 1000 pounds it just too expensive i reckon when your a student.

I'd say either a refurbished 1.8/64GB SSD, or a low-end new Air. Price should be same for both (at least it is so in US store, $1799). If you need it right now, first option seems better (you get it instantly, you have SSD from the beginning, you possibly get better battery life). If not, I'd wait for first tests of new Air (i.e. real battery life, real performance improvements, possibility to use SATA SSD). If battery life doesn't suffer much, I'd say possibility for an upgrade to a better SSD (i.e. Intel's) would be worth buying the new version.

... I see in UK store there's a price difference of 300 pounds. So it might be a factor after all.

i better buy the new revised air. the 45nm alone is worth it because it makes the air's heat less, unlike the rev A which is hot and has problem with flash videos.

Looks like the New Macbook Air it is.

Coz of les heat issues and intel chip.

But now for the steep price.

If i do get it, no way from UK.

I would rather FLY to US and get it from their. It would work out cheaper.

If i bring the laptop back from US to UK do i need to pay any custom duties/tax/stamp duty?

It isn't exactly legal. Many people do this though. What you should do (and what almost no one does) is pay 17.5% VAT. Plus no student discount for you, I think. Unless one can get a student discount in another country... I read some document on Apple's site that specified only US students could get a discount in US, etc. But if they'd sell it in Apple Store with a discount when you show them a student card from another country, let me know. I'd be happy to be able to get a student discount (with ISIC of course) anywhere in Europe :).

And please don't complain about prices. High-end Air used to (no price for new ones yet) cost 9999PLN in Poland. $2,499 * 2,6 = ~6500 PLN. Add to this less than 2500PLN for a return ticket to NYC and it's still less... (and I suppose if I googled for a cheaper ticket it'd be much less).
