I know this gets asked a lot and I know for other products I would often advice people to buy as your always looking at next cycle...however do I buy an iPad Pro 10.5 now or wait and see what may emerge over next few months?
It’s been a while since I bought an Apple tablet and not sure if the cycle for iPad Pro will be June or Sept this year.

The last iPad Pro cycle was 17 months, so we are now 7 months since last release. That means probably late in 2018 there will be an update, but of course that is just a guess. You never know what Apple is going to do and they sometimes change things up.

Well, there are strong rumors that the next ipad pros will get a RADICAL redesign. No bezels and with face ID. This update most likey won't happen until June at the WWDC like the last ones, so it depends on how bad you need an ipad. Is getting the new radically redesigned ipad important to you? If not, definitely buy now. The current 10.5" pro is a great ipad.

Me personally, i'm waiting. I'm still using an older ipad mini. There is a chance there may be a regular ipad update in March. I'm hoping an ipad mini update is announced then, but i'm not holding my breath. If Apple doesnt update the mini in March, i will wait until June and nab one of the new 10.5" ipad pros.

Good luck.

Going to the 10.5 is a nice upgrade. Processing is really fast. If Apple puts out the next version this year, you would most likely see the usual upgrades; camera, processor, and screen resolution. Or maybe they will make the camera a little more flush with the tablet?

The next iPad could be a big upgrade. However, I also think that the price tag will be very steep. Like the iPhone X, Apple likes to attach a hefty price tag to their latest products that are not just revisions. The 12 inch MacBook is another example.

If Apple release a full-screen display iPad in same vein as the iPhone X, I’m sure that the price will be a real wallet-killer. So if you can get a Pro with a bit of discount, it’s probably not the worst deal.

I just bought a new 10.5 iPad by the way and love it.

The answer is the same as always. If you need it now. Buy it. If not, and you can wait until June, then wait.

You didnt tell us how you would use the iPad Pro. It seems like you already have an existing Apple tablet, and if it works fine and is not really the key to putting food on the table for you, then why even upgrade at all? If you want to buy for sheer vanity, then it may be worth the wait since Apple really does not depreciate its prices as the year goes on, and you'll be better off dollar-for-dollar waiting for the next one since you are now much closer to an upgrade than when it was refreshed anew.

Yeah - the latest 10.5" pro has some solid goodies built in. The 4GB of RAM is a huge future-proof item, IMO. The screen is nice, the processor is strong, etc. Im on the fence right now myself deciding whether to make the jump to the 10.5 Pro.

I think the iPad refresh is likely coming in June or September. Most definitely not March because that would be too soon—with the 10.5 just being introduced last June.

Usually, Apple does their iPad updates in a September or October event. They might surprise people and announce in WWDC. That said, can you hold out until then? If not, buy it now. Otherwise, wait.

Also, please take a few minutes to go over the Buyers Guide found here: https://buyersguide.macrumors.com/

I was going to wait for the new ipads to come out but had to buy one now. My ipad 3rd gen was stuck on ios 9.3 and pretty much all new apps developed now are ios 10 minimum. The 7 month old ipad pros are pretty good and should last a number of years. Its only like $60 per month if you finance it compared to $250/month if you finance a new macbook.

Heres a hostory of ipad releases:
* APRIL 3RD, 2010 — ORIGINAL IPAD
* MARCH 11TH, 2011 — IPAD 2
* MARCH 16TH, 2012 — 3RD GEN IPAD
* NOVEMBER 2ND, 2012 — IPAD MINI AND 4TH GEN IPAD
* OCTOBER 22ND, 2013 — IPAD AIR & IPAD MINI RETINA
* OCTOBER 16TH, 2014 — IPAD AIR 2 & IPAD MINI 3
* Pro 12.9-inch 1G: November 11, 2015
* Pro 9.7-inch: March 31, 2016
* 5th generation: March 24, 2017
* Pro 12.9-inch 2G and 10.5-inch: June 5, 2017

Most were released in March or October. If Apple plans to keep the ipad mini, i could see them releasing an ipad mini update in March. Maybe even a pro ipad mini. June is still possible for the next ipad pro updates, but i think fall is possible too. Especially since it'll be a radical redesign. But i'm just guessing. As someone who plans to upgrade, i am hoping sooner than later!

Next Pro's should get the X design. I think it ultimately comes down to whether or not you prefer a home button/touch ID or if you want the gestures and Face ID.
