I just successfully sold my MacBook Air 1.8 SSD after being tired of the revision one issues. (The ones I HAD.. I know there are some with perfect ones)

So, that being said, anyone here think that we will see an update this month? I have read the Engadget thread and know that its a crap shoot.

Thoughts?

if you read the engadget thread (and the various threads on the same topic here) you know everything there is to know. there isn't any new info and we won't know for sure until apple announces something.

Depends on what you want in the new revision.

I believe the current MBAs being churned out from the factory today will probably have a better fan / well-applied thermal paste (I've read reports on this forum), so, if heating issues are your concern, you could try a new MBA right now.

If you're looking for high CPU usage watching flash videos, I understand that's a problem with flash in OS X and the same issue is reported by MB and MBP users. No solution in sight unless a future version of Flash or OS X has a magic solution.

If you are looking for extra USB ports / ethernet port, i am pretty doubtful. This cannot be done unless they change the basic MBA design. And if they do change the design, the possibilities are endless.

Once change I surely expect is a drop in prices and / or spec bump.

But when? Oh well!

I am looking for battery life increase and or better CPU with throttling fixes. (Penryn) Heat reduction would be a plus.

I've been waiting to buy my son a new MBP for college. He's way more patient than I am. I'd have already bought one. Waiting for the next upgrade. Sure seems like it's been forever. I figured we'd have an update before 9/1. Not so. But, he's made it this long. What's another few weeks.

How did you get rid of yours ? I would love to have someone take that POS off my hands. I am just sick and tired of all the problems. I feel like an abused person. No matter how much **** I get from Apple I still keep coming back for more.

I'm sure if you put an ad out and it's in good condition, it'll get sold. It's not like a 10 year old computer ya' know.;)

aren't you the guy that spilled coffee on his Air? So aren't many of those problems your fault?

Yes he is but the real problem is his core shutdown and not the repaired coffee spillage.

I just don't understand why people defend Apple like abused women would stand up for their husbands???

This is my problem for the 100th time:

I watch 4-6 hours of videos every day. I have to use Windows because we share lecture notes in One Note. For example today I am at the library studying. I will be here for 12 hours. Half of that time is spent studying and half watching lectures. That's what I used my MBA for. However, right now my MBA is in the car while I watch videos on my Dell. Later I will go down and get my MBA and read and work on my notes. Does that seem like a solution to you??

So, first Macbook Air is the wost when it comes to watching videos. I have seen the temp get as high as 100 degrees celcius while playing videos.
Second, the screen is flimsy like a screen porch door in a hurricane.

Glitch, why can't you just accept that these are Apple problems, not spilled coffee?

Is my english that bad, that I can't convey a message or are you just so hypnotized by Steve Jobs that you can't see past their shortcomings???

I'm not a MD...but 100 degrees Celsius? 100 C = 212 F

Yes, I see that. I am not sure what you are saying?? I was playing a video at twice the speed and looked at the Coolbook temp on the top right side of the screen and it said 100 degrees. A few seconds later the laptop shut down.

Well, I was thinking..I'm not sure if the Air can even sustain with this extreme heat, 212 F. There're too many parts that can be damaged at this temperature.

uhhh... i didn't read the other thread where you said it also had core shutdown problems. the last i heard you were getting the keyboard repaired and i asked if you were unhappy with leopard / the air before the coffee spill.

i know you might find this hard to believe but i don't keep myself updated 24/7 on your repair status or your life.

That sucks you have core problems. Have you tried coolbook or reapplying thermal paste? All annoying band aids, I know, but looking for a solution is better than nothing. If not, there's always selling it and getting the thinkpad x61 as you previously mentioned.

That's exactly my point. My MBA cannot even handle watching videos. The design is flawed. This is a design issue and needs to be fixed.

Thanks man, I might try to reapply the thermal paste and that is going to be the last thing I try. It's getting too expensive trying to fix everything that is wrong with it. At some point I got to cut the loses. I got coolbook but it only goes so far. I need something to watch videos for hours and hours.

Actually the thinkpad X61 was meant as a joke because it's spill safe. They have designed a drainage system, so that when fluids hit the keyboard, they drain off at the bottom and sides of the laptop. It's a great idea to have laptop "gutters"

I am in the same situation... Not sure to wait or pick one up now with the free iPod touch + -100 off a printer. I will see what is announced tomorrow but I am not expecting any new MBA revision. I wonder if the next keynote will be Macworld 09 or will there be another event before then? If a new revision comes out I am guessing there will be a speedbump, larger HD, more ram (hopefully), and possibly something else.

What do you guys think wait or buy now?

It can reach WELL above 100 deg C without damage.

I remember my first macbook air that reached 110 deg C stable for about 4 hours (fan limit at 2500rpm, forgot lol). No damage, no shut down (system, not core)

Apple will either update the Air to bring it in line with its competitors (larger SSD, more memory, lighter weight, and so on) or essentially kill it off by leaving it as is. If they update, which I hope they do, MW '09 would probably be the latest. I'm hoping for a "notebook event" like today's iPod event before the end of October.

I have a G4 PB that's dying slowly - I'm prepared to wait until January to replace it, but no longer.
