You: and also will you order service at the same time or will it be done another way

Devon: Service is only available through AT&T.

You: ok great

You: will i be able to use the iPhone before i activate it with At&t?

You: like the ipod functions and such?

Devon: You have to have service for the iPhone to work.

You: ok thanks

Devon: You're welcome.

i love it when people post already press released news as new news just because they wasted time asking an apple/att rep...

Well, in theory, if you're buying it from the Online Store, you're not going to get it for a few days. So, when you get the phone from the courier, you can activate it then.

But yeah, if you buy it in a brick and mortar store, you'll have to wait until you can get to an internet connection to activate.

That much has been said for a while.

You might be implying that the iPod functionality won't work until you activate it, but once again, you won't have anything on the iPhone to play music-wise until you sync anyway, and you activate during your first sync...
