I'm allowed to listen to music at work so I want an iPod again (my former iPod died under mysterious circumstances). I have oodles of music and want it all on the go. I'm jonesing for an iPod, but i don't want to spend $250 and then get POed when the next gen comes out a month later or something (thats what happened with my MacPro).

Wait, or no wait?

Thanks.

Buy a lightly used one on craigslist if you are worried. The ipod event is usually in september so you still have a few months before a new one (if) comes out.

Try an apple refurb, highly recommended. You'll save, but if you want to wait I suspect the next iPods will be released around September though no one is sure if the classic will get any sort of a bump...

Also loved the the show Shasta McNasty, can't argue with a show staring jake Busey or Carmine Giovinazzo :)

I spotted one "like new" on Amazon for 185, so i might grab that and wait for September. Thanks, I didn't really know about the iPod event.

Good question. I treated it like a god. Never dropped or damaged. Then it just stopped working.

chances are good that its just the hard drive, then. if you still have it, crack it open and replace it.

same thing happens to my 5.5g 30gb video ipod. so, i replaced the 30gb hard drive with a later model 120gb drive. now it works again and i can take all my music with me everywhere.

I would hate to spend the money on a new HDD and find out there is something else wrong :\

The Classic seems to have rumors swirling around it to the effect that Apple plans to drop the HD based iPod models and go all flash memory. I would grab one now......

I can't even fathom why toshiba would further the 1.8" hard drive if it weren't to be dropped into a device that is mass produced.

Classic isn't going anywhere and I think apple tries to severally undercut the classic sales.
