hey there, i checked the buyer's guide but couldn't see any reference to ATV2. Is it still safe to buy one or should I want after Lion goes live?

ty.

Also wondering

Am in the same boat. Buy or hold?

BTW - why isn't there an ATV in the buyer's guide? If you are going to do ipods and nano's, surely the ATV is more of a Mac than those devices! :D

I'm guessing it's not in the buyer's guide do to it being a hobby product, all we have to go on are rumors.

I would imagine this has less to do with lion and more to do with ios5
Ok. So its a hold.

Not sure I agree ATV is a hobby device. Its in many people's homes as their core media center. i.e. music, movies, TV shows, photos and video.

Atv3 ?

Now that the MacMini lost the optical drive, I too am in a buy or hold mode...

Have been hoping ATV would be put on the buyer's guide... my guess is it's due but haven't seen any rumors on an ATV3...

Any thoughts on when ATV3 might come out?

If the Apple TV receives an update this year, it will be at the annual iPod Event which is in early September. Wait until then if you are worried. There are rumors of a 1080p Apple TV.

I think that Apple will soon update the AppleTV so that it can output 1080p.

Why would they? Currently iTunes store offers 720p only. Same for everything else offered on AppleTV. My bet is: Apple will keep A4 chip in AppleTV as long as iTunes offers 720p as max resolution. As soon as Apple pushes out those FullHD babies through their store, AppleTV will get 1080p output.
