hi everyone !!
finally the time has come!! i ve been planning on this mac ever since i frst joined the forums in march . back then i was thinkin of a macbook but now am gonna go for the 2.2ghz mbp!! now comes the hard part

the thing is i live in india, my aunt is visiting us in september , more specifically to san diego , so i wanted to know

1.if the mbp's are available in store cause i guess she can go there only once

2. one more thing , indian customs rules allows all international travellers to carry a single laptop , but as we all know about the packaging of a mbp i dont want my aunt to open it but to get the whole package as it is instead, so do u think i might hav to pay the import duty on it????

3.another option is that my cousin lives in ny, so can she book the mbp online with the shipping address in san diego ?? but then will the person who buys it need to take the delivery?? wats the procedure??? and if she buys it on her name, can i claim the warranty here in india or does the person who owns it need to be present???

hopin to hear from u all pretty sooon as my aunt is flyin next week most probably !!!! i m excited as well as tensed!!!!

I live in Beijing and a friend of mine just went back to New York for a visit. I custom ordered a MBP and had it sent to his place since VAT on Macs in China is pretty high. I put the computer under my name and just put his name in the address box under C/O when I ordered it off the online Apple store in the US. They had no problem delivering it since my friend's name was on the package. All he had to do was sign for it. Very simple. In any event, your aunt will have to open it to get past security in the US. All laptops have to be individually scanned. My friend had to open the box at security and run the machine through the scanner. Afterwards, he just put it back in the box the way he found it so I could go through the unboxing ritual. I'm not sure about the customs tax since my friend is a diplomat and is exempt, but your aunt might try hiding the box in a big shopping bag and just try to walk through customs. If there are a lot of people going though, she just might slip on by. I travel a lot between Beijing and New York and have only been stopped once, even with big bags in tow. Besides, at that point the box would have already been opened and she can just claim it is not new.

Ask your countrys custom about if you have to pay import taxes if you buy a laptop outside the country but have it in the box when you come home?

Or order it with some bag, open the packaging and put it within it and go home.

I think somebody mentioned that the MBPs are shipping in 7-10 days now. If you go through the order process at the online Apple Store, right before you complete your order, it should give you estimated shipping and delivery times. Just close the page if you decide not to order it.
