Hey guys, sooo, tomorrow I am finally getting an iphone - gawd I'm so excited I can't sleep lol, like a third grader on X-mas eve :p.

Anyway, I have decided on the capacity; unless the price is totally exorbitant, I'm getting the 32gig one. But I'm undecided on the color, so I thought I'd post a poll here so y'all help me with this important decision :) Obviously you can vote only, but I'd really love to read why you think it's better - specifically stuff like, 'white because black is a fingerprint magnet', or 'black because white gets yellowed easier', that kinda stuff that you can't always know beforehand (don't know if either of the above are true btw, just random examples there :p). Because really, aesthetically speaking, I like both just as much and with all the multitude of cases and skins out there, it's not like you can't get a change if you simply get bored with what you've got ;)

So, get votin' me 'earties!! Man, if I'm doing pirate-speak, you know I'm bouncing with anticipation haha
 
get a white one then put a black case on it. :D

I like the black but then again I don't like the silver bezel so I put a incase case on it.

IMO it looks better and more unique. You see how everyone likes black? Be different, get white. I like being different :p
 
what's that about the bezel bruinsrme?

wordoflife, that is certainly a good reason to go with white, I'm with you there! Plus, it would match my adorable white macbook - how cute is that? (I know, fangirl much?) However, if it gets discolored or otherwise marred...well, that would detract from the enjoyment.
 
Another downfall of the white is the increased visibility of the oh-so-popular hairline cracks. Not sure how you feel about them but most iPhone owners are pretty OCD about their phones being perfect.

I agree with the opinion, not the reason. the black looks a lot cooler (and less gay), but if u have a white one that's discolored because of the case, you will just keep the case on. I guess you are right that it's a reason to not get the white, but it's only half baked

aaaaah! *shocked gasp* I have one of those (I think) on the lower left corner of my macbook lid, and you didn't want to be around me the day I discovered it.

man, it's looking really bad for the white right now :p Although the poll is 10 to 5 now!

I prefer the black over the white only because I'd be constantly paranoid of getting it dirty.;)

white looks classier, less prone to showing scratches on the back.
then put a black cover on it ;)
 
blancobronco, you'd keep the case on, but that would be a stop gap measure - your lovely iphone would no longer be pristine :(

ibradmac - white gets dirty, but doesn't black get fingerprints? ;)

Y'all, I forgot to say I would be using it with an invisible shield if it's not in another case. Does that change anything?

It wont really discolor but if it does, you can wipe it off. Provided you have a good case, you shouldn't have a problem. I had the same fears as you when getting the phone, but now I'm with white 100%. It looks great, has higher resale value, and its unique. You don't see a full white back phone often.

Go white!
 
I got a black just cause it's more neutral. Most electronics I buy i think i typically find myself getting black. The white just sort of screams "hey, look at me!" because it's so out there very similar to the iPod's and I don't really care to have everyone stare me down cause they see this super bright thing in my hands.

However, it probably wouldn't have mattered which color I got anyway cause I just put a Case-Mate Smooth case over the whole thing because the damn thing is so slippery to hold and it super scratch prone.
 
wow, I think you're convincing me wordoflife! I mean, I'm still a little worried by what everyone is saying about the white, but you're getting to me! You mentioned wiping it off, do you use that little white eraser sponge thingy that also works for the macbook's plastics then?

From what I've heard, case discoloration comes of with an alcohol pad. You can read more here

But this doesn't mean that the iPhone WILL turn different colors, its just with some cases. I can imagine it turning different colors with heavy, hardcore use, with a cheaper silicon case. The iPhone can get pretty hot.

I'm telling you, get a white iPhone! You won't regret it. Like I've said

-It's unique
-It looks nice
-Higher resale
-Scratches less visible (as some other user mentioned)

How often do you see a full backed white phone? And I'm not talking about silverish white, gray, etc. I mean WHITE

I had the 3G black and now the 3GS White. The black shows scratches and scuffs alot more than the white. Also, the white looks better with cases.
 
I got white because I hate fingerprints. Also, if you're using a transparent or translucent case, white doesn't affect the color of the case.
 
Hi guys!!

So, y'all who voted white have me convinced! Especially wordoflife, those posts went a long way to convincing me for sure! And that case totally rocks.

However, because I reside in a back-a$$wards dump of a place, where the vast majority of services and commerce are so staggeringly disorganized and all-around f*cked-up that the simplest things like getting your stolen id card replaced take weeks of chasing after paperwork (even though you have other state-issued proof of id in the form of a valid passport), I am still not in possession of an iphone. It doesn't look like I'll get a chance to be until after the 15th, either, and even then it's touch and go. No wonder; they brought like two iphones in each branch, even though the email they sent the day before was phrased in a way that made it sound like they had a bunch of devices all ready and waiting and you could drop by any time during the day, no need to queue or anything. Can you say Bum-mer?! I would've been first in the queue, too, the way I was awake at oh-f*ck-hundred from all the anticipation. Anyway, like I said - a dump of the first order :p

So, having seen how crappily everything is organized, I tried ebay out of curiosity, and found lots of iphones for sale that are advertised as unlocked officially by apple (and still in factory shrink wrap). The prices listed as a buy it now are generally very close to what I would pay for an iphone if I were to buy it without a contract, which is perfectly possible here (I think it's the law or something), and which I was gonna do anyway since I like my current plan just fine.

Do you guys think that might work? and if so, what should I pay attention to other than the regular things to bear in mind when it comes to ebay, such as feedback, an independent address etc? Specifically, I'm interested in things like how the warranty would work, and that kind of thing :)

So, fire away me darlings!!
