Dear all,

I would like to sell my 13" mbp (late 2013) and get a new 15" computer. I mostly use it to write stuffs and do some modelling (PhD student), I would eventually like to be able to run civ 6 without the computer overheating (med settings is ok for me).

That said, I am considering the following options (which have educational discounts , France):

-MBP 2018, 2.2Ghz, 16Gb, 256Gb, 560X, 3 years warranty = 2560e (apple store price: mpb+applecare= 3250e)

-MBP 2018, 2.6Ghz, 16Gb, 512Gb, vega 20, 3 years warranty = 3200e ( apple store price: mpb+applecare= 4170e)

I don't mind having only 256Gb of space as I do not have many documents.
I can add up to 7 years warranty, each year costing 75e. (was considering 1-2 extra years)

One of the main concerns I have is the resell value of the computers. I am afraid that the resell value of the 560X will drop due to the new vega gpu.

Thank you all in advance.

get at least 500g storage - a friend of mine purchased a new MBP a few months ago Aug 2018 insisting he did not need the extra storage and last month he got a low storage warning - can't upgrade the soldered SSD and is stuck with external storage

I you are buying 5 - 7 years you are probably eventually going to need more storage than 256g

Resale value of 256 ? low IMHO - I would not buy it especially if not able to upgrade the SSD

Thanks for the reply. And what do you think about the gpu, Is it worth it to go for extra 650e?

I would buy the i7 processor - hard to beat and proven technolgy.

An i7 with SSD / virtual mem - great combo - super fast processing and extended mem with the SSD

and fwiw - not much difference with any speed differences of the processor - again just my opinion
