Buying a 24inch Dell, anything I should know?

Will I have slowdowns in a lot of areas like gaming and video? My 1.8Ghz PM(single) with an X800XT is holding up just fine on 720p video, but how will I get 24fps on 1080i? I am only getting about 10-18 there. Also is there anyway into tricking my 19inch right now to go up to 1920 by 1200 to test how the games work at that high of a res? And do games like Halo and BF1942 go up that high in res?

I'm very confused. You're talking about video in the first two sentences, right? That is completely resolution independent at this point. Apple does not hardware accelerate H.264 (and neither do most video cards right now), so your CPU is decoding that and spitting it to the video card to be displayed. Whether you're playing that on the monitor you have now or the Dell, there should be no difference.

Now... games are a different story. Your computer should be able to handle those fine because you have the X800XT. You might have to sacrifice things like AA/AF at those resolutions, but they really dont make much of a difference because you're already pushing so many pixels out.

Not sure about the games, but in other games I found out that somehow resolution doesn't matter that much for fps. I guess the bottleneck lies somewhere else. I guess you will have to cut down on the detail settings and such to keep a decent framerate, but as I said, resolution doesn't matter that much in my experiences with UT, UT2004 and WOW.
Good luck, it's a fine monitor. Though my old 20" cinema display (plastic) was slightly better with colors and viewing angle. But the 24" is brighter and faster, has more contrast and gets quite good colors after calibrating.

1080p is encoded at 23.98 fps according to the info in quicktime. That being said my G5 says its running at 24+ fps

Ask your parents if they can front you $50 or so. Call dell right now and ask if you can use the 35% off and $60 off a $500+ purchase it should bring the monitor to around $720.

Also with the new PM maybe having PCI-E, will they no longer have agp so when I get a new PM(soon) my X800XT won't work no more?

Not sure about the HD tuner or if your X800XT will work as I am new to this whole Apple thing. Just got my 2.3 on monday.

If Apple puts PCI-E into the new Powermacs, they will not have AGP slots, so no, your X800XT will not work. But the resale on that card will still be excellent because it is top of the line.

I live in California and we have Cox Cable. Since they offer HD programming, could I plug the cox box in the back of the 2405fpw and watch HD content? Thus turning the monitor into a TV? Or does it need a tv tuner?

It Depends what type of outputs are on the back of your cox hdtv receiver

We used the 2405 as a TV for a couple of months with HD. Looked really good...

Used the component hookup for TV and the dvi for the computer...
