Okay so im getting a 15" MBP from the apple store. I want the 2.16 w/ 2GB ram, the guy said that they have one w/ 512 ram but they can install the 2GB's for the same price as the online will and it wont cost anymore than the online store...so, ive heard I should not buy memory from apple...is this one of those times? or will I be okay?

If you don't want to deal with the hassle of putting in memory yourself. Then get Apple RAM.

However, you will have significant savings doing it yourself. At least $150 in comparison(I think Apple charges $300 for the upgrade?).

So, if you want to save money. Buy it yourself. If you want to have it done and not worry about it. Buy it from Apple.

thanks..i basically dont want to worry about it, and have the money to do it so i think im just gonna have apple do it as long as the memory isnt like bad or anything

The main advantage of getting it from Apple, is that it's covered under you warranty, and even under AppleCare but it is more expensive up front...

People say not to buy the memory from Apple because it's more expensive. There is nothing physically 'wrong' with it, that would cause it to not work or anything..it' just more expensive, but as noted above, covered under warranty and it's easier than having to do it yourself.

Actually, it's more of a disadvantage as most 3rd party memory has a lifetime warranty vs. Apple's AppleCare length warranty on memory.
