I’m contemplating buying a new Macbook Pro 13 2018 Touchbar i5 256 GB SSD as a replacement for my dead Microsoft Surface Laptop which I just received my money back for.
I’m a light user, mostly surfing the web, social media, Office work and streaming from Youtube, Netflix etc. I don’t play games or edit video and pictures. I know for my light usage the Macbook Air 2018 probably would also be suitable but I want the brighter screen from the Pro and I don’t mind having a little more processing power available should I want to do some heavy multitasking at times. I owned a Macbook Air from 2013-2018 which served me well so going from Windows to Mac again shouldn’t be a problem.
One of the concerns I’m having is the battery life, and not while in use but when the laptop is in standby. I don’t use my personal laptop daily as I travel a lot where I have to bring my work laptop, so closing the lid on the Macbook with 90% battery and finding it with only a few % lower battery two days later is important. The Microsoft Surface Laptop was good in this regard, I would maybe lose 8-15% from having it in standby for 4-5 days which I found acceptable. I’ve read a lot of posts online about problems with standby drain with the newer Macbooks and were wondering if this has been resolved in the newest versions of Mojave or if it may be down to the hardware and not just software?
Are there any other know issues with the Macbook Pro 13 2018 i5 I should be aware of before plunking down the cash for one? I’ve browsed through so many threads here and on other websites where people mention different troubles they have with the machines but it’s difficult to know which problems are more common vs which are quite rare.
Edit: Browsing the forums have made me more unsure now if not the Macbook Air 2018 is a good fit for my usage. It seems like it's got great battery life and I just found out about the screen brightness being boosted to 400 nits in a recent update. If it's fast enough for my use with less heat, less fan noise and better battery life then maybe saving the 300$ and going for the Air might be a better choice for me. Difficult decision
