I will be starting a lengthy project for a client in his office and they are giving me a computer allowance. I am going to get one of these configurations and am interested in thoughts on these options:

1) New iMac 21.5 retina with 16gb ram and 512 SSD. Also, for portability, a $400 Lenovo ThinkPad Chromebook.

2) New 13" MBP retina with 16gb ram and 256 or 512 SSD. Hooked to 27" LG external that is USB-C compliant.

The work involves lots of word processing, web research and light audio and video editing.

I'm not hearing the best things about the new Mac lines so undecided on which direction to go.

I'd go with option 2, as it gives you good mobility performance and the 27" display will be great while working at a desk
