Buying an Air from Powermax

A couple of quick questions:

1) Would buying a MBA from Powermax be a good idea? They have CTO ones so I could still get an "11.6" Ultimate." Also, no tax and free shipping amounts to an overall cost lower than the overall cost of a MBA from Apple's Education Store.

2) If something were to be wrong with the MBA (I've heard about dead/bright pixels, FaceTime cameras missing the glass covering, and a few other issues), would I be able to have it replaced or dealt with at an Apple Store or would I have to take it up with Powermax?

Well, looking at the MacMall thread, it looks like the answer to question #2 is: Yes, you can take it to an Apple Store for a replacement, if necessary.

Any answers to question #1?

I recently purchased an iMac from PowerMax ... The delivered price and customer service were both very good.

I would buy from them again.

1.) PowerMax is a very reputable dealer with a long history of selling Mac products.
2.) Apple will support it like you bought it directly from them. The only thing you won't be able to do is return it to an Apple store like you could if you bought from them.

Powermax is reputable and I have had good luck with them in the past. The main reason I went to MacMall last time was that Powermax had difficulty earlier in getting the CTO Macs. Also, MacMall was cheaper. However, Powermax has a great trade-in program, and they also seem to have better customer service. I ordered some software and other Apple products from them.

Strange. If I configure an "11.6 Ultimate" with MacMall the grand total comes out to $1498 whereas with PowerMax the grand total comes out to $1399.

Powermax

I have purchased several computers from PowerMax. The last one is a 11" ultimate. The price is right and the service is excellent.

I am happy and will most certainly make my next purchase from these people.

Are you sure you aren't adding anything in? The 11" tops out at $1399. It comes out to $1369 on MacMall's regular site and $1341 with the Apple Insider code.

PowerMax usually sells at Apple's MSRP. However, they are known for being helpful.

Powermax - not impressed

I placed an order with them for a loaded 13" MBA on November 11th.
They have my trade in and my credit card details but I still don't have my Air and they haven't been able to tell me what is going on with my order!

I wanted to like them because the concept of personal service is great but these guys don't seem to be very competent or efficient.

Ultimately that's why I went elsewhere for my "ultimate" 13". If they have it in stock, they are great, but for whatever reason, they can't get build-to-order models in very quickly.

MacMall is based in California and has to add tax if that's where you're shipping it. Technically you are supposed to report out of state purchases and pay tax on them.

Sad but true. That's called use tax. The CA Board of Equalization (sales taxing authority) is ALL OVER businesses to 'fess up and pay use tax on out of state purchases.

Luckily they aren't chasing after individuals without businesses just yet...
