Buying an IDE Hard Drive

i recently bought a 300gb ide/ata100 seagate (5yr warranty) from circuit city. It is $139 - $50 circuit city rebate - $18 seagate rebate = $71. There are $10 and $15 off $100 coupons to be found on deal websites (fatwallet, slickdeals, etc)
 
If it is for the Mac Mini, notebook drives won't ever be really cheap.

Adding an external desktop sized drive may give you better space/dollar.

Not sure if they're the cheapest, but their service is excellent.

Definitely cheaper than retail stores though, since you can get OEM drives. Occasionally, you can find good deals in stores though, but they're after you send in a rebate and wait 4 months for the check.
 
Whatever price you find, make sure you are getting the full manufacturer's warranty, in writing -- this should be 3 Years, or 5 years from Seagate and 5 years on the Maxtor MacLine pro series drives.

You do not want a Pull, Recertified, Reconditioned, B-Stock, NOS (New Old Stock) or other drive that has zero to 1 year warranty. You also do not want any equipment that says "warranty covered by seller" or "Warranty from importer" because that is a tipoff that these are grey market goods that do not have any coverage from the manufacturer.
 
if you have a fry's near you, they have a maxtor 300gb on sale for 79.99 no rebates required. They have EIDE and SATA on sale for that price, same size. I think outpost.com has it for the same price.

I picked one up today, and an external case so I can build my own. So I now have a 300gb external usb/firewire hd for under 120 bucks. Sweet :)
