I want a 27" i5 but obviously there are issues with the displays. I can travel 60 miles to an apple retail store. Is it possible to un-box an iMac and test the screen before purchase?

Speak nicely to the person serving you. Explain that you have heard some iMac's have been suffering from issues and you would just like to check this one. I don't see it being a problem.

I just love that blond girl photo u have there stridemat :D

it's breathtaking

ohh yes! it's possible of course, if you do just what he said there'll be no problemo at all. It's less trouble for you as it is for them.

does anyone know if i can use my education discount at an Apple store or if it's only online?

I made them open up my box before I walked off with it, however, the lights in the stores are very florescent, and hard to guage how the screen looks. I am in the UK though

Yes you can as long as you show valid Student I.D.

Do they stock 27 inch i5 in the UK at Apple stores?

Yes.

Elisha Cuthbert = Jack Bowers (24) daughter. :p:p

I went through 3 iMacs that had dead pixels or dirt inside the screen before taking the time to look at it inside the store. I stared at the screen for a few minutes and felt like a geek for being so picky, needless to say I got home and still had a dead pixel, at least this one wasn't in as obvious a spot as the others. I'm still kinda p!$$#D about it but I have decided to let it go. Damn Apple who would have thought it would be so hard to get a 27" iMac with a nice screen.

When I grabbed mine the yesterday I mentioned the yellow screen and issues that have been talked about and asked about checking to make sure first. He said they can look at it but it has to be purchased first then they can make sure it all looks good for you.
