buying an iPhone 3G in Bangkok

does anybody here if I can buy an unlocked or locked iPhone in Bangkok?

I am a pilot and will be in town next week.
Thanks for the links... I guess I'll wait till I am in Hongkong - whenever that will be. :cool:
 
I don't know about the airport but they definetly sell unlocked iphone in HK. I guess in a few days we don't have to care about that anymore... pwnage will be able to unlock the phone anytime soon!
 
Man, I wish I could go to Bangkok this summer :( It's pretty awesome.

As for the iPhone, I think it will be a little overpriced there (if you can find one at all) since its just came out. Nothing is locked at MBK mall : )
 
Some 3Gs have become available in Thailand - they're mainly from Hong Kong - where you have to submit a certificate of residence to get an unlocked iPhone. Therefore the rather high prices and meager supply ...

Go to MBK in Bangkok..the will definately have it. Ask anyone in town and they'll tell you where it is. It's a massive shopping centre and on the top floor you can buy pretty much any phone..copied DVDs, games etc.

The 3G won't be cheap though!!!
 
I'd be surprised if you find an iPhone even at MBK.

But I gather in a few months there will be an oversupply ... If anyone can hold out for some time and needs an unlocked one, you'll get much better prices once the global market is flooded with iPhones.

Tight supply keeps the prices insanely high at the moment.
 
You can also check out Pantip(sp?) Plaza. It's a huge mall dedicated solely to tech. There are a few stores that sell only Apple products. Inspect it very closely to make sure you are getting the real thing, though. Any taxi driver will know what you are talking about.
 
got an email from a friend of mine from Bangkok and he said that the iphone is sold for 45,000 THB in MBK - unlocked importet from HK. This is around 900 EUR. Freakin unbelievable!!! :mad:

PS: I know Pantip but after that mail I guess I can forget about gettin one in Thailand

I was just at MBK the other day and almost every shop has 3g iphones. They are selling between 25,000 baht - 35,000 baht. The most expensive one is the white 16GB.

Most are unlocked using Turbo SIM pieces.

If you go up the escalator and turn right...one shop that has all black wallpaper and has dangly things for 3g iphones. That shop seems to have the best prices and selection. Lots of stock and genuine cases and accessories. They will also jailbreak for free if you buy from them and setup some custom tones.
 
That Turbo unlock won't work for long.

Your new 3G iPhone will work in the shop - but after some time (there is some new hardware in the 3G phone) you'll get air instead of a connection and soon after no more connections.

I'd keep my hands off MBK 3G iPhones ...

People say it makes the signal weaker too, and anybody that has an iPhone knows it is bad to begin with.

You can get unlocked Black or White 3G 16B from New Zealand for $600-$675us ($1129NZD) depending on the exchange rate...

I just bought one back, and the only downside is no 3G network on T-Mobile :(

Yeah, but I like to see the merchandise before I hand over the cash ... Tons of lemons out there.

In mbk, thailand u can buy the iphone 3g 32 gb for about 32,000 bhat
iphone 3g 16gb for about 28,000 bhat
iphone 3g 8gb for about 26,000 bhat
iphone 3gs 16gb for 26,000 to 32,000 bhat
all unlocked

In hong kong u can buy the iphone 3g 8gb for about HKD 2,600 - unlocked
iphone 3gs 16gb for about HKD 5,400 - locked
iphone 3gs 32gb for about HKD 6,500 - locked
Some of the shops in hk will sell the unlocked version of the iphone 3g but very little will sell iphone 3gs
