Hi All,

I'm from Europe and I'm going to be in the States in Summer and I plan to buy a new iPhone in D.C or in NYC because it's more cheaper than in Europe. So, I would like to ask you about it.

1. Which states have lower sales tax?

2. Once I bought the iPhone, do I have to pay more tax when I am in the airport and I'm leaving the country? I read somewhere if the customs notice that I bought the iPhone here in the States, they will ask for further taxes... But if they don't notice, I can bring the iPhone with me, but this is not so legal (?). Is it true?

What do you think? Have you ever been in similar situation?

Thanks

I'm just getting this info from other posts I've read on the subject but some people have avoided VAT by simply removing the iPhone from it's box, discarding the box and setting up the iPhone before returning home. That way it appears as if you brought it with you.

Others have managed to smuggle a boxed iPhone in their luggage but apparently some have been caught.
