Buying an older MBA (rev B or C) Yes or No?

Hi there, this is my first post here, and I have read the rules but please excuse me if I inadvertently break any. I'm just wondering whether you guys would recommend buying a used MBA Rev. B or C for a university (college) student? I'm currently using an old Inspiron 1525 and it is just so average, I'm keen to get a mac as I'm currently using an iPhone and I hear iTunes is much better on Macs, as well as the thin and light(ness) appealing to me.

I would be spending around $1,500NZD or somewhere close to $650USD on a 1.83ghz model without an SSD and 2gb RAM. Is there anything I should know before I make the plunge? Any massive faults or other macs I should go for?

You find a me a new one for $650 and I'll buy a couple. New ones are at least 2x more expensive and specswise not that much better than the old one.

Imho $650 for a rev B/C machine is a pretty good deal. You can always add a Runcore SSD later on and should make it plenty fast and fairly close to the new ones. Only things missing are SD slot and an extra USB slot but I don't think those are such a huge deal at this price. The new one is a little more sturdy because of the new design of the bottom part but if you're careful with yours to begin with it's not a big deal once again.

Well I'm getting my new one Monday. And...

I'm going to be selling my rev C with SSD. It's been a perfect MBA without a single issue. I just wish to get the smaller form factor otherwise I would just keep using this one.

Whoever winds up buying this will get a good MBA at a great price. Also AppleCare coverage for 23 more months.

So they aren't all crap no matter what you think!!!

I've had everyone one, only one that gave me "issues" was the Rev A 2nd week model I had a couple years ago. Rev B/C are fine machines and for the prices right now are really good machines.

I got a less than a month old 2.13 Rev C for 850 shipped last week. Saving of almost $600 over a new 13" 1.86 with no backlit keyboard.

My advice, if you're getting an 11" than it's worth it over the Rev C 13 but I would highly consider a Rev B/C 13 over a new 13 unless you're going for the ultimate because there's no comparable machine.

The older models had issues with over heating, the newer ones don't appear to suffer from the same malady.

I'd say that you'll be better off with the newer models.

Don't buy the ones with the SLOW hard drive if you look for an older MBA.

I'll chime in as well, I've owned B & C and now the newest MBA. While there's no question the new MBA is my favorite, my B & C were just fine. I had no issues with them, and the B hinge felt loose (never broke), but Apple still replaced the entire assembly under their hinge recall.
