Can I just walk into an Orange supplier in France and buy an unlocked iPhone? I'm British and I'm going to be in Paris later this week. Just want to know if there are any restrictions...

Thanks for any advice offered :)

OP, did you buy one then?

And how exactly are Orange unlocking them? Is it as easy as typing in some kind of control sequence? How come this can't be worked out by some clever people?

it's been said it's supposedly simply unlocked via itunes when you go to activate it (or something similar), no actual 'codes' as many other phones use to obtain an unlocked status

I'm going on Friday.

I just want to know whether or not I can just walk into an Orange France store and buy an unlocked iPhone. Do I need to be a resident in France or anything like that!
