Is this possible? Is this legal?

My father and I both have iphones and I'm about to purchase my first app and was wondering how, if possible, can he have the same app that I install without buying it twice!

Were new to this so patience is appreciated!

Cheers!

Yes you can do this as long as they both use the same iTunes account. As far as I know it's legal. If it wasn't Apple wouldn't allow it.

If you're on the same itunes account, yes.

You can just sync the app over to the new phone or go to buy the app again, and it'll tell you when you confirm the purchase (not before, which is annoying) that you've already purchased the app and tap 'continue' to do it again.

My wife and I share apps all the time 'cause we're on the same account.

Just to clarify!

If each of us have different accounts, can I just simply log into my account from his iphone and re download the app?

Or do they both need to share an account on the same mac? Each of us are using a our own macs respectfully and each have our own account on said mac.

You've helpful already, just need some clarification. Thanks mac community!

I believe so, but if your friend sync's up at home and his iTunes uses another account, it will remove the apps from his phone if he sync's them. I could be wrong, but I remember something along those lines was happening to my wife and I when we had two separate accounts.

Nah my brother and I have two computers, two separate accounts and we share apps all the time. I've never had my apps or his apps deleted from any phone. If I remember right, a popup comes up on iTunes asking if I want to transfer the app to my computer.

if you have two computers (or 2 separate accounts on the same computer), you must Authorize each iTunes to play any music/movies/apps purchased with the same account (Apple allows you to authorize up to 5 computers with one account).

Option 1.
Once each computer has been authorize, all you only need to is buy the app on one phone (iPod touch/iPad), then transfer that app to another iTunes account by plugging in your iDevice using a USB and selecting the "Transfer Purchases from XX Phone" feature in iTunes (you don't have to sync your phone, just press that button to transfer purchased media).

Option 2.
If your on the same home network and you have iTunes 9 installed on both machines. Then you can set up your computer to automatically share apps.

the easiest way is to just get the other person to login to your App Store with their account and download away.

Settings>App Store>Change login

when you're done revert back to yours.. haven't had any problems

I also don't sync my apps with iTunes so if you do you might want to follow the other instructions as well?

Yep, me and my friends all authorize each others accounts on our computers so we can all share our apps. There is a limit of 5 computers, but it works great.

i just get my friend whos bought and app to log in on my iphone.

go to the app and purchase, it then says "you have already purchased this item redownload?"

click yes

Then once its downloaded log out of his account and back into yours. Walah!
