Hello,

I'm planning to get a MBP

If I buy it from the US (say, NY?), what custom/duty/tax (gst, pst?)/etc will be applied
I live in Vancouver Canada:D

Any experienced buyers?

thank u very much T.T

Why do you want get it from NY?

You can just get it from apple.ca and pay the local taxes. It'll save all the custom or duty fees.

BTW, apple.ca ships from the US.

I don't think the US store will let you ship to addresses outside the US. I have clients in Quebec and they could not order through the US business agent wing of the store.

Oh, im not planning to get it from apple.com and i just used NY as an example.
I will need to pay both the GST and PST.
I'm just not sure if I will save by buying from the US...

remember that you'll pay sales tax in most states in the US, so when you're comparing prices don't forget to add that amount to the purchase price and any Canadian taxes that you'll have to pay when you take it into Canada

Um, so just to make sure

1) I will need to pay the state tax in US (say, 7% in NY?)
2) and I still need to pay the GST in British Columbia, Canada
3) Do i need to pay PST (cuz its out of the province?)??
4) what custom/duty does a laptop apply?

thx

Ok the slightly dishonest way:
Buy it in Seattle, then take it out of the packaging, send the packaging empty via post to yourself (can't apply computer tax on an empty box). make sure your bill is hidden on your person. Take your compy across the border and if asked you brought it with you when you crossed over before;)
DO NOT SHOW THEM THE BILL - IT IS A DEAD GIVEAWAY
OR you can be legit and buy from apple.ca, they are good, I've bought my ibook and an intel imac from them. :)

lasty item I got something from the us the duty was around 5%? and they also charge you gst, pst etc.

The best place to get duty information is from regional Customs Trade Administration Offices. Their numbers are listed at www.nafta-customs.org/Canada/eca_frame-e.htm.

Sales tax in NYC is over 8.65%. Not sure about out of the city although I believe it is similar.

thx, but i just need to know what tax i will need to pay, not the actual number...
