I'm hoping to pic up an entry level Mac Studio next month, and have the chance to save some money by buying one in Tokyo rather than Dublin. Here, a Mac Studio starts at €2,449, but in Tokyo the same machine sells for Y298,800, which is right now about €1,893.

That's a big saving.

So here's the question, a Japanese purchased Mac Studio will have a Japanese power plug on it. So can I just buy a replacement plug with an Irish/UK three pin plug on it, or is there something specific to Mac Studios sold in different regions of the world that make that problematic?

What power cable does a Mac Studio take? It looks like a standard universal 'cloverleaf' connection but is there something I'm missing?

Thanks all!

It is a standard cloverleaf connector. I can't answer your other questions though.

I'm pretty sure you'll have to pay Customs Duty and VAT when you try to bring it in. It's pretty hard to say you brought a desktop with you on your trip. While it's much easier to say that with a MacBook Pro.

As far as I'm aware most if not all modern computer power supplies are dual voltage and automatically handle different voltages. The Mac Studio is rated for 100-240V AC and 50-60Hz, single phase. So, it should just need the correct cable for your country. PSU used to have a physical switch for different voltages. But that went away a long time ago.

Thanks, that's what I thought but thought it was stupid not to check, in case I brought one home, plugged it in and it exploded because it was rated for a different power system.

You can absolutely bring a desktop back home with you. People do it all the time for lots of reasons. Just don't bring the packaging home with you.
