Hey!

Ive just sold my HTC Kaiser and am now looking at getting an iPhone. Would I be able to walk into an Apple Store tomorrow and buy an iPhone and unlock it with ease? Or am I better to purchase one from eBay that has already been unlocked?

Just wondering how easy the unlocking will be (I have searched around the forums) and if paying a little more on eBay for an unlocked iPhone would be worth it?!

Would it make a difference if I imported a iPhone from the USA?

Will iTunes not question the unlocking? So everything, my address book etc with all still be sync'able?

Cheers.

Seriously, do not pay those ebay prices. I got an iPhone last week (uk) and unlocking and jailbreaking was the easiest process imaginable. Just download ziphone and follow the simple instructions online. If you can operate a computer at all, then your skilled enough to unlock your iPhone.

Yeah, as mentioned above, ZiPhone is amazing and I've unlocked several phones using it. You don't need any knowledge, just hit "do it all" (meaning jailbreak, activate and unlock) and the program will litterally do everything for you. When its done, your iPhone will be unlocked.

Just buy from AT&T or apple store and do it yourself.

I did have a little read up on Ziphone, but thought there would end up being more too it. So Ziphone will have no worries unlocking an iPhone brought tomorrow from an Apple Reseller Store or O2 shop? And Id be able to do everything? Safari (with my Walk 'n' Web), SMS, Phone calls. And will my mac Address book and iTunes be fine sync'ing contacts, music and film?

Would I need to get Installer app? Or would that just be an option if I wanted to install applications? It wouldn't mess with the Ziphone stuff?

Thank you very much for the responses, really appreciate it. :):D

Ziphone will add the installer app for you. Just connect your iPhone, quit iTunes, quit iTunes helper, fire up ziphone and 'do it all'. 4mins later and your all set for whatever you want to do.

Wow. Awesome. Thank you! Can't believe its that simple! Thought it was alot more complicated than that lol! Is there a chance though that this way would cause damage or brick the iPhone?

Also what will happen with future up dates? ZiPhone will take care of it?

I don think theres much chance of you bricking the phone as long as you follow the steps. Maybe watch one of the many ziphone videos on you tube, just so you can get a better idea of how easy it is. As for future updates, I'm not sure. I suppose future versions of ziphone will deal with that, but that's purely guesswork.

it really is this simple!! i too was in your position about a month ago. 2,30mins later and my shiney new 16gb iphone was working with my vodafone sim ;)

do it dont pay ebay prices..

Thanks for you help :). Do you know of any good guides or tutorials for the Ziphone process for an out of the box 1.1.4 iPhone?

Cheers. :)

There's a big button that says 'Unlock, Activate & Jailbreak'. You plug your iPhone in, click it and that's it. Don't worry about it at all, it's quicker and easier than getting it activated officially! If you're using EDGE from a different network, you'll need to change the settings on the iPhone to reflect that, but otherwise you're golden.

I saw on some videos on YouTube that you had to restore the handset and hold the power and home button etc. That was the reason I was asking about guides etc. There is no need for me to do this with a 1.1.4 out the box? I do plan on using EDGE as I am on T-Mobile's Web 'n' Walk.
