Hard at work
I'll be buying a new Mac Pro, have already pretty much decided on the options (other than 2 vs. 4 gig of RAM). Has a medium-high WAF (wife acceptance factor) :)

The only hold-up is that my wife would rather that I wait until closer to X-Mas to see if they go on sale. Being a relative newcomer to the world of Macs (we bought a Mini about a year ago) I have no idea whether Apple has holiday sales as do many PC makers. I do see that the price for the X1900 XT has already dropped a bit.

I also understand that the Pro is pretty new still, any guesses as to sales by the end of the year, or should I try to talk her into letting me buy sooner?

Thanks...

I haven't been around macs for as long as alot of people on here, but I waited and waited and waited until I got one, and I have never seen them go on sale. I think the free ipod and printer offered right now is the best deal you will get.

The only sort of discount you might get is if you buy a refurb later on. Other than that don't count on it. By the end of the year we're likely to see Revision B with the next generation of processors.

Remember, the free iPods are for students and teachers only...

Apple doesn't do sales. They don't even sell older models at reduced prices, for example the outdated G5 machines still sell at the same price. The only possibility to get a Macintosh cheaper is to buy a refurbished machine, you can look for them on the Applestore webpage; these are machines that have been returned by a customer for some reason and cannot be sold as new anymore. The graphics card is made by ATI (or NVidia, doesn't matter much), not Apple. If ATI reduces their prices, Apple can pass that on to their customers. But Apple prices don't change.

They don't do sales and I have never seen a special deal at xmas time. Buy it now and get a free iPod (if you are a student).

Yep, to echo previous sentiments, Apple doesn't generally offer sales. Sometimes they do have a Black Friday sale (day after Thanksgiving) but last year it was only $100 off iBook/iMac and small discounts on various other 3rd party products.

If you want to sale $100-$150 and save on Tax, you can buy from a 3rd party reseller (such as Amazon) which offers rebates and no sales tax. But then you can't customize it.

If you want a BTO order config, I'd say there is little reason to wait.

Thanks for all the replies. You all confirmed what I had suspected. I am planning to order a BTO system.

Thanks again...
