Buying Macbook Pro- REVISION vs PRICE! HELP URGRENT!

For
1)$1845usd I can get a macbook pro 1.83 with 1.5gb of ram for 1845usd shipped BUT model number is w86100..... on ebay with warranty card , new

2)$1945usd I can get a macbook pro 1.83 with 512mb of ram at the Apple store tax included( save through edu discount + GC that can be bought from a friend) and the newest revision w8616......)

They both come with warranty and clearly the first deal is better but should I take the risk of heat issues ? ( do 95% of the first batch come with heatproblems?). Or should I go with the safer but more costly route?

Need reply asap, will be checking this post every 30mins. Thanks

I am not convinced there is any rhyme or reason to which ones have problems. Also heat is a relative thing, all of them run pretty hot methinks.

you lose the right of return if you buy it on eBay. my macbook pro has several issues (and it is the latest batch!!!)

issues:

bad track pad
squeeky hinge
static from speaker
buzzing noise
VERY HOT

and it is my third one!!! so NO, do not give up the right of return.

It has to be the latest one. The problems with the MBP just seem too prolific to tempt fate. The eBay'd one is probably on there for a reason.

What do you mean lose right of return? I can still exchange it or get it fixed for free under warranty right?

As far as I know, Apple will cover it for the remainder of its year warranty no matter where you bought it from. It's not as convenient as returning it to the point-of-purchase within the 14 days for an immediate replacement, but they will fix it at their cost.

I haven't seen any definate proof that later MBP models are any better in anything except the LCD buzz not being there.

How comfortable are you with buying from eBay? I'd spend the extra money just to be sure I actually got the laptop - US$1845 is cheap for an MBP with 1.5GB but wicked expensive for an empty box or a damaged MBP that won't be repaired under warranty (accidental damage is not covered).

No, $200 is not worth the risk in my opinion. I prefer to keep my distance from buying Macs over eBay- just way too many fraudulent deals and sellers there.

The only way I'd buy any computer gear on eBay is for old stuff...parts or old (read: cheap) but still usable stuff.

Well the guy selling it has over 122 feedback 100% , power seller and his trade history does deal with some electronic device. Further more if, it is brand new, with box and reciept from Apple, it should be okay, and at worse I can take it to the Apple store and trade it right?

So wait a couple of months until you go back to school, and then at that point you'll have had time to save up the extra $200.

Why not sell the external monitor, you won't need it with the MBP...the screen is that good.

I need the external monitor because i like to keep some space between keyboard and screen plus 20inch widescreen is quite amazing =P.

Update: I also can get an offer on ebay for $1850 shipped with revision w8613 with only 512mb ram though... warranty included, brand new .

I see yet another person confuses "needs" and "wants."

Very few people actually use a laptop in college for what it's meant for...most just play solitaire in class, or leave it at home.

My program demands a notebook or will be that is and I play battlefield 2, Cs source , GW etc so video card matters but you're right I don't really know what i want but I figure if i keep my laptop for 4 years i might as well spend extra $300 for Pro vs non pro ?

I just bought from that seller with 1.5gb ram, turns out the macbook is 2 weeks used as he will be getting a 17inch. I paid $1825 shipped with warranty card and he promises it will not be DOA and has no heat or firmwire issue. Hope this is good, Simon L

Wow. I must be the only one who's had no problems buying or selling on eBay. I just sold my 15"PB there to offset the cost of my new MBP!

OK. So you`ve made the purchase. But I`d think it`s priced a little bit extra than what it should be as it is 2 weeks old and buying a Refurb directly from apple for 1699(plus taxes) seems like a better idea.

Well, I had over 150+ transactions on ebay and had no major problems. This seller has good feedback , a power seller thus I will be hoping it be will good. I live in Canada and it'll take a while before they have refurbs. Also there is a 15% tax in where I live so I think importing it would be better
