Buying MBA in store? Ask for upgrades ;)

Apple stores don't advertise upgraded MBAs for sale. They only list and display the 2GB versions. But, some stores do carry upgraded GB and Ghz models.

I asked my local Apple store tonight and they had an 11" MBA with 1.6ghz and 4GB. The first Apple rep didn't even know they carried the 4GB version. I asked the manager to check in back and the "stock room manager" walked out with an 11" MBA listed at 1.6ghz and 4GB. It was awesome! I asked if they had other upgraded MBA and the stock room manager said they did carry a few different models.

My apple stores stocked three 11.6" configs (1.4 2GB, 1.6 2GB and 1.6 4GB). They had a small display on the Air display table with the price for each config. I think most of the stores are stocking these.

Yup. My local store carries the base configurations, but also the 'Cadillac' version of each size i.e. the highest speccable 11" and the highest speccable 13". In between specs are not available and need to be ordered online.

The local Apple Store listed the BTO (1.6GHz, 4GB, 128GB) 11" Air as an available option, so I asked if they had any in stock. They said they don't get many non-base configuration ones, and that I got one of the last two they had. Not sure if they were telling the truth and just wanted to make the purchase feel special, but either way they are available in store by location. Happy hunting!

The two Apple stores I went to in the DC area both had MBA listed at only 2GB. There were no 4GB versions displayed or even listed as an option. Funny how that is, good thing I asked

The Apple Store here in Fort Worth, TX had listed the 11.6" in the 1.4GHz/2GB/64GB and the 1.4GHz/2GB/128GB models. No 1.6GHz or 4GB models in any variation were listed for sale when I checked in the store last Saturday 10/23. I quickly walked out, went home, got on my computer and ordered online.
