well i made deans list last semester so my dad said he would chip in for the MBP for me....i was originally going to wait to get the intel ibook (macbook), but since hes chipping in, im going to buy the MBP after the first batch of reviews are out

a few quests thogh

1) how would i go about copying prefs for certain programs (especially adium since i have it just the way i like it).....i believe the most recent version of adium is universal, so would i just copy the prefs folder over? (where should that be located if so)

2) will clear dock or transparent dock or one of those work on the new intel imacs?

3) i run photoshop on my 1.33ghz powerbook g4.... think ill notice any difference (be it slower or faster) under rosetta?

4) any chance of a 160gb HD option between now and say end of march for the mbp? if the 17s offer it when they come out, i might have to go for that, even though i dont want to lug that around......

5) are there ANY cards out there with the new PCMCIA express slot in the new mbp?

6) i heard the trackpad is now the same size as the g4 17inch ones.....true?

im sure ill have more questions in the future......so ill just post them here....thanks

and if anyone is interested, i will be selling my old powerbook, so if you look in the marketplace forum, you can see the specs if you are interested

Given your current line-up, my question would by "why?" You have a still-decent (if not damn good) portable. A very usable desktop. Why dump the money into the macbook, at least until there are more apps ready for it.

Transparent Dock does not yet run (or didn't as of a few days ago).

It will be slower. Photoshop is hard for Rosetta to emulate.

Unlikely....

Indeed.

I don't know about 1-4, but I can answer these:

5)Not now, but many will come out within the next two months.

6)Yes.

Though I'll have to agree with the previous posters. You don't really need a new computer right now since yours is so new.
(But if you're giving it away, I'll take it.)

Yeah, there's no need to spend the money now. I'd wait until you need a new computer, rather than buy one when you've got two perfectly capable computers. I was in the same situation you were, I had a MacBook Pro on order, and cancelled it today, to wait until I needed it, to see what happens with the first generation of Intel machines, and perhaps the back-to-school special. Basically, I wouldn't rush when you don't need to. There's no harm in waiting.

well i can probably sell this, plus isight, plus mouse, plus software on ebay for about 1500......then my dad is kicking in a bit since i made deans list....and i get the edu discount....and apple gave me a 200 dollar coupon to a future purchase because of the issue i had with ilife 06 (expires at the ned of this quarter)....so i can get a brand new MBP for virtually nothing.....

and also this compared to the g5 imac just feels kind of slow.....i do a lot of audio/video encoding/ripping, and id just like some better speed...and i dont use pro tools either....lots of ilife which are native....only 3rd party apps i use regularly are handbrake (which i get only like 6fps when ripping, and i hear on the new intel imacs you get can like 50, and handbrake isnt even native), and adium, which is universal already

also office, but i dont think that should be much of a problem under rosetta.....and i dont use it that often
