Hi guys,

I have never bought an tablet before. I want to buy the Ipad Pro 10,5.
But I will mostly use it for gaming from the App Store. My phone screen is too small and hurts my eyes after a hour of gaming.

Is that a silly reason to buy a tablet? I know I can game on older ones to but if I buy one I want to buy the new one.

It isn't silly to buy a tablet for gaming. Get the 256GB version.

What kind of gaming will you be playing? How much games do you want to have on your iPad?

I was thinking about the 64gb being enough.
What if I keep IOS up to date. How much space will it consume? I think 60gb ish would be enough.

I mean arent the larger game apps like 1gb ish per app? I woudnt have more then 10 games I think. I am not someone who has 100 apps. I like to keep it clean :)

iPads are primarily media devices used for movies/games/music, etc. your justification for wanting an iPad for gaming is on target.

You have to ask yourself does the newest features and specifications apply to what you want with the 10.5 iPad. Otherwise, there is the cheaper option with the $329 entry level 2017 iPad.

I am also curious if it really is needed to buy an 512gb Ipad because of the faster speed. Idk how much % faster it goes.

I am guessing they will do it the same as the phones.

2017 iPad has the same GPU as the iPhone 6s so for gaming, the 10.5 Pro does offer much better performance. Particularly so once you take the higher display resolution into account.

I think there are some games that are 2GB or bigger. Imho, the 10.5 Pro 256GB is probably a happy medium at $100 more than 64GB and $200 less than 512GB.

Some of my games are already hitting 3GB!

I have about 20 games and a bunch of other apps on my 32Gb 9.7" and I still have 19Gb available (IOS takes about 3.5). I'm upgrading to the 64Gb 10.5" and am sure I will never come close to running out. Putting a ton of photos, videos and music could make a difference. Just go for it. You'll love this thing. I have ever since I got my first and can't wait to get my new one. One other thing: even though you look like a dork using it to take photos, the camera on this thing is amazingly good. I was a pro photog for 40 years and took this on an Alaskan cruse and was stunned how great everything looked. AND they are upgrading the camera on the new ones.

Being the OP didn't really elaborate specifically on what type of gaming and how intensive it would be, I would think the 2017 iPad would be sufficient. Especially, since they were using an iPhone 6S for gaming and the larger display appears to be a necessity as indicated the original post.

For more intensive purposes, with a faster response time with 120 Hz and 4 GB of Ram, the new 10.5 iPad would likely be a better choice in that regard.

Resolution matters.

Note the following comparison for iPhone SE (A9), iPhone 6s (A9) and iPad Pro 9.7 (A9X):

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1680?vs=1695
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1603?vs=1695

Basemark ES 3.1 / Metal Offscreen Test (1080p)
Average Frames per Second - Higher is Better
iPhone SE: 16.7
iPhone 6s: 16.7
iPad Pro 9.7: 21.3

Basemark ES 3.1 / Metal Onscreen Test
Average Frames per Second - Higher is Better
iPhone SE: 39.8
iPhone 6s: 30.9
iPad Pro 9.7: 14.5

Note, despite the faster raw performance of the A9X GPU, it's way slower than the SE and 6s in the onscreen tests.

That's for the A9X. The A9 powering a 2048*1536 display would give you even lower frame rates.

Thanks for providing the specifications, but that doesn't change my suggestion. Resolution is a factor, but what to extent based on what game. But being this is the OP's first iPad and he didn't specifically state what what type of games they would be using, price point considerations and general uses, I think the iPad 2017 9.7 would be more than sufficient based off the few details provided, Other than that he said he only using it for less than 10 games.

My recommendation would be the 2017 iPad 9.7 with a higher storage. I'm estimating, but t doesn't sound like the OP is a very intensive gamer. ESpecially if he was using an iPhone 6s prior.

But as I posted earlier, I also stated if he has more intensive gaming needs, then I would consider the 10.5 iPad with the 4 GB of RAM with the 120hz rate.

I Agree. I would at least consider 64 GB of memory over 32 GB, being games can consume memory quickly.
