Has anyone bought a new MacBook from Tek-Serve in Manhattan? If so, did you increase memory to the maximum of 2GB ... and what did they charge for that? Feel free to share anything about the experience. Thanks.

Why dont you buy from the Apple store. The prices are the same, or buy online and save tax. I been to Tek-Serve find them to be unfriendly. I think if you looking for high end apple products buy from them. If not go to the Apple store or online.

Also the prices for ram upgrades arent cheap.

A friend was able to stop in at Tek-Serve yesterday and informed me that it costs $300.00 to bring the memory up to the max of 2GB, as opposed to Apple's charge of $500.00. They also offer the AppleCare for $20-30 less (I am not sure which at this moment) and also throw in some type of protective cover.

You are right ... there is a degree of unfriendliness on the part of some staffers and attitude also, but I find that to be the case everywhere, including Apple. If I deal with them, my view is that I will be making a purchase, not looking to make any new friends.

And as opposed to $220 +/- $20 at reputable third party RAM resellers.

Unquestionably true ... I realize I am in the minority, but I will not do the memory replacement myself. Call it the Murphy's Law flashback: If something can go wrong, it will go wrong (and then the only one to blame will, of course, be me).

Which brand of ram does Tek-Serve use for $300? Also does that void the applecare. Since atleast one memory chip has to from Apple. That is the case for the MBP, not sure of the MB might be both.

Also what you plan on doing with the Macbook , if you maxing it out at 2gb maybe you should get the pro?

I brought mine online saved tax and got a rebate.
