Buying PB 12'' in Argentina

Hi to all, this is my first post in here

Im from Argentina (south america ), and im going for a PB 12''


ive just read that there are almost 2 revs for the PB
and i dont know, how to identify one from the other, and also, dont know the difference between both PB.

Also wanted to know, if anyone of u can recomend or assist me on some issues i might be aware

for u to know, in here, mac is really expensive.

PB 12'' cost USD2100 tax included, but it worths every penny

Also, i would like tu upgrade its RAM, but im not willing to pay USD330 for 1GB RAM Stick

Is is possible to upgrade with hynix RAM?

To answer your questions, I think there are actually 5 revisions of the current 12" PB....and they all look the same. The difference is in the specs. So when you're buying your PB, make sure it is 1.5GHz if you want the latest model.

As for RAM, I'm afraid I don't know what "hynix RAM" is but as a rule of thumb it is a lot cheaper to get your RAM from places other than Apple.

I can say that Apple uses Hynix ram. My Rev D. 15" PB came with a stick of 512mb of Hynix ram.

When buying ram, its safer to buy ones with a longer or lifetime warranty.

That's one hell of a mark up, it'd be cheaper to fly to the US and buy your Macs there! And I thought us Brits had it bad.

is that to do with some weird import law? i seem to remember some company in the early 90's making mac clones in brazil because they couldn't be imported from america...

Import taxes are high, but not THAT high to justify Apple's prices in Brazil. I think Apple has an office in Brazil since 1990, but I'm not so sure.

si, pero si me traigo la notebook para argentina, en la aduana, el TAX es del 50% del valor de la notebook en eeuu


for those who dont understand spanish , javier says that it would be cheapper to go to eeuu, buy it there, and bring it to argentina, but in customs, ill have to pay %50 of the retail price.

What if you didn't take the box for the iBook, then they would never know it was new. Could you probaly get away with the tax?

the thing is like this (for at least in argentina, i guess in brazil is the same way):

When u go out of the country, and u take a laptop, u have to declare it, and in customs, they write in ur passport, the s/n, model, and brand, of the laptop.

Then, when u came back, u have to declare that laptop, cause if dont and in customs they see ur laptop, they make u pay the tax.
it doesnt matter if it looks good or old, u have to had decleared it.

It's exactly the same way in Brazil. I'll get an iBook during my trip to Miami in January 2006 and I will pay the taxes.

That's insane!

The current PowerBook line-up is a good value at a reasonable price, but
there's no way I would spend that much for one there.

For that price, I would Fly to Florida or some other duty free port
and buy it there.

Otherwise have a trusted friend gut an old PC tower, put the PowerBook inside and ship it as an old POS p/c needing repair.
