if i was to buy a refurbished last gen white imac from apple.com - would leopard come in the box?

Yes Leopard will come as a Drop In DVD in the box. The only thing missing I believe is iLife '08; the refurbs come with iLife '06. I can't confirm this, but I haven't opened my refurb yet so hopefully someone who recently purchased one can help you at.

If you're thinking of a 20", amazon .com has new ones @ $1200. The package
includes a wireless mouse & keyboard (old style), iLife '08, Leopard drop-in,
free shipping, and no sales tax in most states.

MacMall has the 24" white 2.16 GHz @ $1450 -- but watch out for their NO RETURNS policy.

i think that's what i'm going to get. i've been researching online for a while & checking out the new imacs in the apple store ... and i just can't go forward with the screen that is on the new imacs. dont like the glossy at all. plus this seems like a steal for $1200.

are you sure that it comes with the leopard drop in though? the reviewer at the bottom of the page doesnt seem to think so. regardless, even if it doesnt, it's $10 from apple - no big whup.

really appreciate the heads up!!

It does, I got mine (In sig, 17" 2.0Ghz C2D) for $850 and it came with a Leopard upgrade disk.

I see some include iLife 08 too, but I guess mine didn't, oh well not a heavy user of it anyway.

Trust the reviewer, he seems to have one. I meant that it qualifies for the Leopard update.

I suspect the Amazon units are from Apple's final production run of white iMacs. I bought a
white 20" from smalldog.com (now sold out), and like the amazon reviewer's unit, it came
with an iLife'08 pack-in (i.e., inside the factory-sealed carton). iLife'08 was introduced on the
same day as the ALU iMacs, so anything with iLife'08 inside must be very late production.

Mine was built in week 34 -- after the ALU intro -- so, it's actually newer than the horrible
ALU 20" I returned; it was built in week 33. The white 20" the screen is absolutely gorgeous:

$1200 is a steal -- especially if you prefer the full-size wireless keyboard and mouse.

right on. i bought it from amazon last night. couldn't pass it up!

your link doesnt work... fyi... would like to check it out though, if you want to fix it.

Does it really include all that?
Well, I probably mis-spoke on the Leopard drop-in, but it does qualify for
the $10 upgrade. The wireless package is in the amazon "headline", and
the reviewer's comments regarding iLife'08 match my experience with
my smalldog.com purchase.

Also notice the unusual product number: MA759LL/A, and amazon's
note: "Date first available at Amazon.com: September 14, 2007"

Sure looks like Amazon did a special deal with Apple and snapped-up
their excess inventory of white wireless keyboards along with the last
of the white iMacs.

I bought one about a month ago and a friend bought one just this week. Leopard wasn't installed with either, but it was included (although I did have to get the $10 copy from Apple).

My iMac came with iLife '06, although Apple's website said that it would include '08 (at least at the time I purchased it). After a quick call, Apple sent me a copy of '08 at no charge.
