buzz or a errrr sound if you will!

O.K when my imac goes into sleep mode after about 10-15 min or so, every couple of minutes you can hear a "buzz" or "wurrr" sound from it. sorry about the poor choice or lack of words to describe the sound. I really do not know how to explain it. The sound almost reminds be of a car alarm trying to go off when the car battery is dead. Just wondering if this is normal or not. The imac is about 1 month old. thanks for any help

my powermac g4 makes noises similar when in normal use sounds sort of like it is coming from the psu but could be a failing fan, of a loud fan
