Buzzing noise in standby

My Alu 20" iMac is making a 'buzzing' noise in standby - It seems to come from the top left but I may be wrong there.

is it just because it is in standby or because i have a defective unit? My TV has a similar noise but that is cheap rubbish, this is a £800 odd iMac

Defective unit, your iMac will be silent, all the time (except for the DVD drive, which is always going to be noisy).

Take it back and get a replacement
