My PSU is buzzing and i need a feeback from other Mac Pro owners (my PSU was changed 3 times, an all are buzzing).

Please, put your ear near the left side of the power connector, listen, vote.

i bought my 12 core 2010 MP from eBay recently, and noticed a buzzing sound (its not loud or especially audible above the other sounds in the machine) but its there. i don't feel it should make that sound but i don't know.

the one in the clip sounds more aggressive to me, but its hard to say. i'll see if i can get a recording done.

My MP 1,1 PSU iz buzzing like crazy. 5,1 is silent for now.

1,1 has Delta PSU, 5,1 has AcBel PSU.

can anyone say in general if this is a sign of a failing PSU or something to worry about?

I'm already worried about my GPU fan being noisy, but the GPU is a much cheaper fix than a Mac Pro PSU!

Could be a sign of dirty power. I had a buzzing power supply in a PC, then I hooked it up to a line conditioner and it became quiet.

Unfortunately the line conditioner also buzzed, so that's not a great solution for someone recording music or whatever. The dirtier the power (quantified by LED indicators), the more it buzzed.

Than the Apple Store has the same dirty power, too. I have used a drinking straw to locate the buzzing, and it looks like the buzzing came from the big coil on the lower left side of the PSU. So it is not dirty power, it is a low budget coil.

Your poll lacks 4th option: I don't care

These low budget coils are durable enough to last 6 and more years od 24/7/365. MP PSU rarily works with more than 60% load. Nothing to worry about.

Only 7 MacPro User here?

Probably late to reply but I was looking for opinions on Mac Pro PSU buzz and came across this.
I bought my 2009 Mac Pro 5.1 just under a month ago and suddenly noticed the PSU being very noisy like the one in the recording above (even when the machine was off but plugged into the wall)

So I told the seller and he sent me a replacement PSU, this one is noisy as well but only when the Mac is powered on.

I'm honestly scared as if I place my ear next to the PSU it's buzzing like crazy but can't really hear it when I'm normally sat at my desk.

I'm just looking to know if I need to be worried or not.

Have you checked your power source? Low voltage or watt limiting is notorious for making this buzzing noise. If you do not have testing tools, hook your machine up to a UPS device and check the display for in/out volts and watts to at least get a rough estimate.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately I don't have an UPS device or other tools to check the volts or watts. However I tried to plug the machine in different parts of the house including several wall plugs as well as extension leads and the buzz is always the same. To be honest, it's not loud at all unless I stick my ear next to the machine but if I do so I can hear it loud and clear that's why I'm wondering wether it's a common thing or not.

220V or 110V?

Sorry for the resurrection of the old thread, but found this while searching for a "is this normal" sanity check on my 2010 Mac Pro.
and for Martin, mine is a 220V if that's significant in this issue?

I'm sorry, but could I cut in between here too ?

I've got two Mac Pros torn apart on my kitchen table right now. I am in the middle of performing a Pixlas mod to at least one of them. Maybe to both of them if I receive the other cables and clips and crimps fast enough.

So I've got a Delta PSU and a Ac Bell PSU available now for this "to be" rendering slave. I live in a 230V 50Hz country. I have googled the manufacturers and they are both big and seasoned companies I guess. I have done a thorough cleaning with compressed air to these allready.

Which brand of PSU out of these two would be better to use heavily in a Mac Pro 4,1 Radeon VII GPU rendering machine? Soundwise, maximizing durability, or any other considerations and opinions would be welcome too.
