I currently have a Telewest 4mb Broadband service, it is absolutley brilliant, superfast, no limits and mac friendly. I originally signed up on 512kbs but over the years have been upgraded to 4mb for free. Customer service is excellent too.

However I am in the process of looking for my first home and the area I wish to move to is not serviced by Telewest.

Can anyone offer good alternatives that are ethernet based (no USB or Satellite based bollocks) 4mb minimum and Mac friendly.

Telewest keeps referring me to Virgin.net but it looks a pile poo.

Thoughts anyone?

Thanks

EDIT: This is for UK

Go to samknows.com and put in your new phone number/postcode. That will let you know whether you're limited to bog-standard BT based services or whether you've got any LLU operators in your area. The LLUs tend to be more likely to have high/no caps on usage.

Some will give you an ethernet router (although they may charge you £20-£30) rather than a USB modem.

adslguide.org.uk has message boards to get an idea of how good/bad the service from any given ISP is at the current point.

Depending on how high a monthly usage you have, the BT deal is looking better value currently than it has in years with some free Openzone minutes for when you're out and about, decent online storage etc.

Just wanted to comment how nice it is to find a service like this.

I was lucky as well and have kept my service over the years as the price has dropped and performance has gone up.

Wish there were more services like this. So many aren't it seems.

Good luck on finding a new one.
