I'm looking for information and software for programming in (Obj) C/C++ in classic Mac OS (i.e., anything prior to X, not just OS 9). I've Googled, but couldn't find any useful compilers. Most people recommend Code Warrior, but they don't seem to sell an IDE that will do pre-Carbon development anymore (I guess I could live with Carbon if I had to, but my preference is not to).

I'm also looking for system call documentation as well as basic Mac OS programming info (file system details, scheduler concepts, etc.)

If anyone can point me in the right direction and/or has a compiler for sale/download, please let me know!

Thanks,
-JP

I'm not sure if Apple still supplies them, but there was the MrC compiler and documentation on the developer area of their web site.

You may be able to find older versions of CodeWarrior or Symantec C++, either of which would be preferable to the ancient Apple way to developing code. Try web sites listed in the back of a Macintosh magazine to see if they have clearance items.

Huh? Get MPW (Macintosh Programmer Workstation) from Apple's website or from one of the development CDs. If you can find an old copy of Think C, it's a little better and does C++. However, the last version I had wouldn't work under Mac OS 9. MPW works in any version of Mac OS and Classic, and the price is right!
