Hello MR members,

I am in my first C++ course and the book I already bought for the class is good but is written pretty bland. Programming and Problem Solving with C++ is the current book I have. I would like to purchase a beginners book as a backup, incase this book doesn't explain something simple enough. My TA recommended Sam's Teach Yourself C++ in an Hour per Day, he also recommended C++ for Dummies. Which should I buy, I don't need both. I looked on Amazon for reviews and they both seam to have good reviews. Also, if I get the Dummies, which version should I get? There is 7 in 1 (big book) version and the thinner regular version. Any advice on which book is best would be great!

Hey,

Although I have no knowledge of C++, my experiences from using the dummies and Sam's Teach Yourself in 24 hours books have not been good. Particularly the Sam's teach Yourself ones, I found them very rushed and not very understanding for beginners.

But hey, that's just my experience, you could find them really useful. I suggest doing what miles01110 has said and go to a book store to have a look through each book before deciding which one to buy. I'm sure once you have a look through them you'll know yourself which one to get.

But as my lecturer once said, "All tutorial books are bad, it's just some aren't as bad as others". But thankfully there is a mass of books available to choose from, along with the Internet and the helpful people you can find on forums like this one.

All the best with your studies.
