Hello, do you all think that it’s best to wait for the second generation of Apple’s custom modem? Just want to know what the C2 would really offer as the C1 has been getting good reviews in regards to its impact on battery life on the iPhone.

It's always best to wait for the next device as it will always be improved. The downside is that you will NEVER buy a device because you're waiting for the next one with it's improvements.

Or you could…just not worry about it and get something. That is a choice.

Yes I think I will wait for the C2 modem on the 18 Pro Max 📱

Any chance that the C2 custom modem could be in the 17 Pro Max this year?

The 17 iPhone models could be the last year of Qualcomm modems on the iPhone.

Tests show Qualcomm X71 significantly outperforms C1 in top end speeds.

Let's say C2 matches X71, it would still be a huge risk for Apple to move everything to C2. This is why only 16e and Air are using C1.

So maybe wait for the C3 😁

I'd say go for a Qualcomm phone if you need a new phone now and if you feel worried going for Apples own chipset. Qualcomm does deliver good stuff.
Even if I decide to stay with Qualcomm and go with the 17 Pro Max, Apple will handicap Qualcomm’s modem to make sure it does not significantly outperform there own custom modem.

The 16 pro max was supposed to have the x75 modem from Qualcomm but Apple chose the x71 stripped down bare minimum modem instead.

I would buy two now and keep one shrink-wrapped for resale in the future. The first Apple C1!
It will be interesting to see how the C1 works on 5G networks 20 years from now. 6G networks will be well into operations in 20 years.

Will be interesting to see what Apple 🍎 has in store for the C2 and C3 custom modems.

How can any reviewer honestly say the improved battery life is due to the C1 modem and not because the iPhone 16e has a larger capacity battery? Are they replacing the iPhone 16e's 4,005 mAh battery with the iPhone 16's 3,561 mAh battery?
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max: 4,685 mAh
  • iPhone 16 Pro: 3,582 mAh
  • iPhone 16 Plus: 4,674 mAh
  • iPhone 16: 3,561 mAh
  • iPhone 16e: 4,005 mAh
