Hi,

I've recently convinced a friend to switch to a Mac and he has bought a 20" iMac Core 2 Duo, stock specs except for an upgraded Hard Drive (500GB)

It appears that the iSight Camera is not working as it is not showing up under 'USB' in System Profiler, Photo Booth and iChat doesn't detect it, Zapping PRAM and resetting the SMC isn't working either. However, the Apple Hardware Test isn't detecting any problems, even after the 'extended testing' option.

I've also tried re-installing OS X, but I can't figure out what's wrong.

Would anyone else have any advice for me to try? It's quite embarassing, having convinced my friend of the superiority of OS X and Macs in general to have his very first one not function correctly...

At this point what you have already gone through, I would probably contact Apple for further assistance.

Thanks for the replies :) I called Apple and explained the problem and what action I had taken myself to try to solve the problem. He didn't even try to run through any other options, he just said "Yeah, I think it's safe to assume the iSight isn't working or isn't connected, you've done a good job there troubleshooting" (nice compliment, as I'm sure other tech support reps still would have insisted I run through their scripted troubleshooter :p)

They've sent a waiver form for us to fill out and return, which means he can keep the iMac he has for now (as the rest of the system is still working grand), and they'll send a replacement on top priority and they'll come pick up the old one 5 days after the replacement arrives.

Another top notch service from Applecare!
