I'm toying with getting my iMac to respond to "What time is it?" etc. It works fine in other user accounts, but doesn't work in the main account. The "configure" option shows it is recognizing "What time is it?" but there is no speakable items folder, and importing a speakable items folder from another account doesn't work. Nothing shows up in the commands window in the main account, but it works fine in the other accounts.

Anyone else with this problem?

I don't know much about user accounts in OS X, so I haven't tried any other accounts, but I was just starting to mess around with it the other day too. It worked well for some things -- I liked being able to tell iTunes to start up and play from the other side of the room, for example -- but it's buggy as hell. It would randomly stop listening, or get locked in some sort of infinite loop where it thought it was constantly receiving a command. Or it would simply shut itself off and I would have to go back into System Preferences and turn it back on. So it's cool, but essentially it's completely useless to me.

I've been using the voice recognition for about a week now and i have only had a few small problems. When I told it to tell me a joke it would get halfway through and stop. Once I turned Speech Recognition off then on again it worked fine. I also had problems with the listening key, I have had much better luck making a keyword to say before each command and it seems to work much better.

Mine was doing fine with jokes in a separate user account. I've got it set to respond to "Computer" then keep listening for 15 seconds. It just seems to be incompletely installed in the main account.

and I agree, this C2D iMac is totally awesome.
