Steve made a comment in the keynote about almost all of the currently shipping computers being 64bit. Seems to suggest that the mini (at least in its current form) is still a shipping computer. However, it would have been nice if had commited either way.

I'm looking to convert my mum and a mini wouldn't be a bad way to start. Although the keyboard she currently has is pretty awful.

Netcraft confirms that Mac Mini is dead!

Confirmed as a rumor. The logic was is it has been over 9 mos since an upgrade. By theat logic, half of apple's lineup is being discontinued. Even if they do, Apple will just make a new entry-level, no frills mac to takes its place. I read Apple sells 100,000 units per quarter of the little beasties. That's almost as well as the MacPro.

Yes but when he made that comment he had a photo of all the macs behind him and the mini was not in the photo.

I bet they make a lot more money on the Mac Pros. Not just initially but ongoing as well.

That's because the mini is not 64 bit. He said that nearly all the computers they ship will take advantage of the 64 bit capabilities in Leopard. Since the mini is not 64 bit, it was not pictured.

It's definitely due for an update, but I'm hoping they'll update the iMac first, so I can FINALLY buy one! :p

I've had the money saved for a while now and I'm just waiting.............

Yeah, the macpro probably has better margins. But the mini is a much better gateway for switchers. Of course, with all the good press and momentum lately, Apple may conclude that they don't need the mini as a gateway anymore. I hope not, I love my mini, best Apple TV I ever had.

Apple are not going to want anything to take the spotlight away from the iPhone.. so I don't think we will see any kind of new computer hardware for at least 3/4 weeks after the iPhone is released.

There is a subtle hint in the latest rumour on Appleinsider that something to replace the Mini may appear in a few months

Those same people add that the Cupertino-based Mac maker may also have a few smaller surprises in store for fans of its Mac line around the same time.

I don't know, you would think that at some point Apple would try to make the Mini and the Apple TV different...but this has been due for a long time and you would think that unless sales have fallen off Apple would do something about it, but iThink that Apple is much more profitable where it is right now because it forces a lot of customers to just upgrade to the iMac, even if they don't want to just to escape from the lack of performance in the Mini. Somehow iThink most people that want a Mini update would rather perform a hard drive upgrade? or do externals just solve that problem.
