C2D Macbook owners: jet engines when playing Flash video?

Whenever I play a clip from youtube or dailymotion on my MB CD 1,83GHz, the fans come up after about 30s and make so much noise that I have to turn up the volume to understand what's being said in the clip. To my surprise, this is not the case on my MBP C2D that arrived here today! As my MBP has an unevenly lit, grainy, cheap screen I'm thinking about going back to a MB C2D.

Now my question to the MB C2D owners on this forum: can you play a 2 or 3 minute youtube clip without your computer "preparing for takeoff"?

No jet engine here. What browser are you using? And did you check Activity Monitor to see what's consuming your CPU?

Lets just say MacBooks panic when it comes to heavy loads of flash.

no problem here. C2D MBP. Been at YouTube, and most recently played Pogue's bit on Vista from NY Times.

Do you have latest Flash Player (v9)?

Thanks everyone! I'm using Safari and the latest flash player version 9.0.28.0. Activity monitor tells me that Safari consumes major CPU load whenever I play flash videos.

Great to hear that the C2D is powerful enough to handle flash without producing excessive heat! Now I can order a C2D MB for myself (Blackbook )

Handling flash animation is pretty processor intensive and it can even make my MacBook Pro pretty toasty.

On youtube and google video all the time and have never, ever had my fans go beyond the default lowest setting, or if they do they are too quiet to hear.

Dont have the jet engine effect when im 'watching' flash but get the effect when im 'converting' flv to mpg. Then again this is the case for most video conversions i do.

In which case my guess is your browser of choice and its flash codec arent playing along well. Maybe you should download flash 9?.

With the C2D, whenever I play games in Windows it turns into a jet engine and gets hot too...but when in in OS X I use smcFanControl @ 3000RPM minimum and it usually hovers between 44-50 degrees C.

So instead of studying for finals, i ran a test.

I went to youtube.com and found a music video i liked. I watched it Safari, and my temps didnt go past 60C and i didnt get an fans.
While watching this i have Adium open, Powerpoint open, Firefox with 4 tabs open and safari running this video on youtube.

All on my CD macbook 1.83 with 1GB ram.

Now i went and in a tab in firefox, i opened the same video (I also made sure both videos started from the same initial temp, a stable 52C with <8% CPU usage at the time )
during the firefox trials the fans kicked on louder, and the temp was a couple degrees higher thus i concluded that flash, and firefox dont like each other as much as safari and flash..

but i think i will try teh same video on my sister C2D and see whats up..

I do and I have the C1D MBP, I use Firefox. My CPU usage goes nuts and the fans come on...
