C64 emulator removed from App store

That's right and hopefully you were lucky enough to get it before it was removed.

Seems basic is indeed in the app and a little emulator keyboard combo will activate it.

Though I'm at work and can't access the site they list that states what needs to be done, so I'm not sure how to do it. I got the app but engadget said about up up down.... etc didn't work for me.
 
I knew that would happen as soon as I saw the posts on the simple method of re-enabling BASIC. I bought the app on the spot as soon as I saw that info, figuring Apple would take it down quickly.

Apple is insane.

I did as well. I figured there had to be a way to enable basic on there if it was already running the code needed to emulate those games.
 
I ended up getting it as well, but I don't think there will be any great advantage to having it this way. I would guess that once it's back up with a more strict barrier to accessing BASIC that the new version will be required for any game pack updates. Therefore, keep BASIC and these crappy games, or get the patched version and access to future game packs.

I could be completely wrong but I could easily see something like that happening.

Honestly though. While having BASIC is cool and all...it is super useless using the tiny on-screen keyboard (well that, and the virtual keyboard is missing the ';' and ':' keys). And there's no virtual device to save or load a program. So, all in all, it's fun to type a 3 line program, but that's about it.

I'm more annoyed with Apple with forcing the removal. It's a sandboxed application. How is anyone going to do anything "bad" with BASIC running in the confines of the C64 app???

still not surprising it happened. regardless of whether or not their terms suck, it breaks them. :\

Agreed. As geeky as it sounds, the best thing about it was just being able to see that home screen with the blocky white flashing cursor. That alone brought back old times for me! As far as functionality, not so much.
 
I was considering buying this saturday :mad: Shoulda bought it. Oh well, thanks apple. I was debating between picking up a pc for video editing and a mac. I think I know what I will go with. I am sick of their constant micro-control over everything:rolleyes: PLease bring out a zune hd microsoft, and dont limit it to att.

I can't see how the app store affects your PC/Mac choice. The app store wouldn't affect a mac in any way

The zune hd won't be limited to an carrier since it's a crappy device that doesn't have a phone

Yes, I am a mac hater. That's why I bought an iPhone. Yknow, show 'em who's boss. Same for my MacBook. Why does it effect my choice? I stated quite clearlY their control over everything. That goes for heir os, the way they treat devs, and their litigation against small companies. The list goes on. Btw the pc people call me a mac fanboy :rolleyes:

As a developer, I have two things to say:

1. Every company controls to some point what I can do on their platform. Apple has rules like everyone else. If I violate those TOS I'm bound to have my app pulled. Very obviously, putting in a HIDDEN feature to get past the approval process then revealing it is stupid, VERY STUPID, and mostly a way to get media attention. They knew their app would get pulled, and they also knew EVERYONE is going to buy it once it's back in without BASIC.

2. You sir, belong in the PC world. Leave mac's to smarter people. k thx.
 
no such thing as a mac hater. macs have limitations just like pc's. it all depends on what the person needs to do. i personally use both (mostly because software isn't available on the mac like 3DS Max). just use this handy little tip and you'll find your product:

Macintosh is for Productivity
Linux is for Development
Palm is for Mobility
Windows is for Solitaire

actually Macintosh would be for Chess. there is no solitaire app that comes packaged with OS X. ;)

Let's put this in to perspective:

Macintosh for over restricted development (3 weeks your app might be allowed)
PC for slightly restricted development (3 days your app might be allowed)
Linux for no restricted development (3 seconds and it's always allowed)
