Well, I've just started my search for a new cable modem and WiFi router. Currently I have a Motorola SBG 900 Gateway (modem and wifi). It works ok for my tastes......2 iBooks, a G5 and a PC are all running on the internet wirelessly. The rub is games. My son's xbox hooks up to the internet ok but I have to put the firewall down to almost nil. Now, the complaint is the Nintendo DS won't hook up to the internet. So, I'm looking for either a gateway or a seperate cable modem and a wifi router. BTW, I use Comcast. I've seen a new Buffalo "n" router with AOSS that looks promising. Thanks in advance. Cheers

Cable Modem and Wireless Router....Suggestions?

Hi. We use a Terayon TJ 721X with out Adelphia HSI which is pretty much the same as Comcast. Then we have a Linksys Wireless B router which is now I guess obsolete using Wireless B. But the Cable Modem is really nice. I would think for all of the devices you have connecting you should get a high powered router except they tend to cost around $120. Not sure how much you were looking to spend. I might even look at the Airport Extreme Base Station. I just found this really quickly as an example but you might look for something like the Linksys WRT54GX4. Hope this helps.

I would avoid the N routers for now because they are all based on the draft standard, plus they are extremely overpriced, coupled with the other caveat that they'd only work with other components from the same manufacturer.
Buying now may cause much anguish in the time to come, on the other hand the G routers are pretty much time tested, cheap, and reliable. Remember what people always tell you about Apple and Rev-A hardware? The current N routers are more like Rev-0.
