If I’m using apps like DaVinci, Lightroom, photoshop, etc. they all have settings for cache or scratch disk

When I am plugged into my dock I’ll be in “desktop” mode, and essentially working longer and harder

But I may also bring my laptop to a coffee shop and do more light editing or related work. And in this case, that scratch disk won’t be available.

1) what will happen when this scratch disk path disappears?
2) is there a way I can… have it both ways? The attached disk when available, default to local storage when not?

1. Probably one of two things, the app will either complain about the missing disk and then hopefully switch back to the internal storage, or it'll just switch back to the internal storage without saying a word. I would also wonder if the missing disk would be removed from the list but...

2. Try it and see what happens! :) It's been a while since I've poked around in the cache settings of Adobe apps at work, but I think you can set multiple cache locations.

Let us know what you find out!

I'd try to set up a shell script that changes a symlink on system wake, and configure the application to use that symlink as scratch directory.

Oh something like that might definitely work... Thanks!
