I honestly wouldn't buy a CalDigit RAID card unless you're sold on their HDElement boxes. But even then, I would tend to avoid their RAID card, as generally speaking, it's cheap junk wrapped in a pretty bow.

Another thing to note about the CalDigit card is that it will NOT work with internal drives on 2009 (4,1) and newer Mac Pros. For those machines, you're limited to using the external SAS ports, which only support their HDElement boxes. And the HDElements boxes (not cheap) use cheap, consumer-level drives (mostly Hitachi).


Areca and ATTO make far more robust cards.
