Calendar and alerts on shared calendars - no alert?

I have a few calendars (on Calendar.app) shared with my wife which are actually pretty important, so we know each other's day to day schedule, can share flight info, finances etc. But so far I have not been able to figure out how to get alerts on these calendars to appear on her devices. Am I missing something?

I have a shared calendar with my wife. It seems about 50/50 on receiving a notification when she adds an event to the calendar. Is there some trick or setting we’re missing?
